Review: Newport bistro's 'Califoriental' cuisine is well worth discovering.

The Orange County Register

It has been a long, heartbreaking, and sometimes frustrating ordeal in cleaning up after the fire at the restaurant. It was determined that the fire was electrical in nature and started at the rear of the kitchen in the early hours of the morning on June19th. We have been busy dealing with the insurance company on fixing structural damage, inventorying and salvaging anything useful, and picking a contractor to remodel the kitchen and dining areas. The fire was extremely destructive and will require us to rebuild and replace literally everything in the restaurant. I would like to say on behalf of myself and the entire Ho Sum crew how touched and moved we have been on the overwhelming outpouring of love and support we have received in your letters and postings. It is nice to be missed and so nice to see that we have left a positive impact on our local community.

I wish I could give everyone a firm reopening date but at this time we are still in the early stages of rebuilding. City building permits, as well as health department and costal commission clearances take much of the process of reopening out of our hands, and all we can do is be patient. It is my best guesstimate based on the current level of activity that we are looking at reopening sometime towards the beginning of the new year. I will give periodic updates on our progress as we proceed.

Again, I want to thank everyone for the good will and well wishes they have sent our way, but most of all for your patience during our rebuilding phase. In the end we will all have Ho Sum Salad for many years to come and a beautiful brand new restaurant in which to enjoy them!

Warm Regards,
